From October 3-6, as Expo comes to a close, the Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) – Slow Food’s youth arm – will bring several thousand young farmers, food artisans, fishers, nomads, chefs, students, vignerons and activists to the city, to show that there is no one better to tell us how to feed the planet and to take on this task in the coming years.
The plans were announced during a press conference in Milan last week, which officially presented Slow Food’s involvement in Expo 2015.
This event will combine education, food, music and fun to establish the ground to think about our future food system together. In an open invitation Slow Food invites young people working in food production to come to Milan:
“The world needs you, your example, your skills, your youth and your energy. Come to Milan in October, when the great Universal Exhibition dedicated to “Feeding the Planet” will be coming to an end. Who better than you—you who feed the world with your daily labor—to lead this mobilization and launch, at last, an unequivocal message of hope and peace and prospects for the future?”
Expo is being held in Milan from May 1 to October 31, 2015. The theme of the event is Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. For Slow Food, participating in Expo means sharing the experience of our movement with a huge number of people. We must let them know that the food that feeds the planet is different; it’s food with a soul, a heart and a history.
So let’s start spreading the word! Tell the world who really feeds the planet.
